The world has lost another artist today. More than that though, to us on a personal level it feels like losing a family member. The memories we will carry – the visits from Kee, watching him grow from a very young man in his journey to become the outstanding artist he was, to building a family, watching his kids grow up, and more. These are the moments that connect one life to others, and moments that created memories that will live on as we mourn the loss of a dear friend.
Although Kee had been fighting hard, he still never gave up hope that he could return to his bench, and even did so on some occasions. Creating art was everything to him. Not just a livelihood, but a very real calling – a very part of his soul. Even when in hospital he was doodling, sketching and planning for his return to the jewelry bench. The designs reflected his personal struggle and emotions on a very deep level. Like a song to a musician, those designs had they been brought to life, would have certainly carried a part of Kee in them. More than just silver and stone, but something born out of passion and calling. We are devastated that he was never able to complete that vision.
Kee touched so many lives; many that perhaps he never even fathomed or knew of. To him, he was just following his first love – art. He was a such a humble and kind person, and probably never realized the impact he had on others in sharing his passion. But as that art went out into the world it meant something. Sharing a part of himself and his culture; inspiring others and more.
So many of you knew Kee only through his jewelry, but in collecting it, you still had a connection. Through his talented hands, you not only experienced exceptional art and beauty, but without even knowing it, a connection to a gentle soul and genuinely kind person. We miss him so very much.
Rest in peace Kee. You will be in our hearts forever.
