It should be noted that the facts sheet mentions that traditional sterling silver is plated. Argentium was invented in the UK, and it may be that traditional sterling silver pieces in the UK and elsewhere are often plated. Perhaps too, in commercial mass-produced sterling silver items in the US. Traditional sterling silver Native American jewelry is not plated.
